Our Handcrafted Jewellery is Made by One of the Best
Florentina Belarde is your ultimate fusion silversmith-jewellery-craftsperson, blending her lifelong love of prehispanic Filipino jewellery and her more recently adopted passion for things Celtic through her beautiful handcrafted jewellery.
She was born on the island of Mindanao in the Philippines in 1985. Mindanao had in pre-hispanic times been one of the main centres for highly skilled artisans working mostly in gold, an abundant substance in those days.
After arriving in the UK in 2009 she enrolled in a silversmithing course to pursue her interest in jewellery making, something that had fascinated her for many years. Her teachers rapidly became aware of her exceptional talent and encouraged her to exhibit her creations and take more advanced classes. After moving to Scotland in 2011, she developed an interest in Celtic Jewellery and began some in depth research into its history. There in Edinburgh, she took two further courses and has moved her skill level well up into the sought after professional range.
What was fascinating to her was that some of the motifs she observed in Filipino jewellery were mirrored in Celtic works especially the patterns used for embossing. And often, without consciously attempting to copy any specific patterns, she found her work bore an uncanny resemblance to the ancient jewellery of her country.
Florentina only uses 925 Sterling silver in her work and when using stones tries to source them where possible from Asia. She has created a range of very popular items, earrings, necklaces, bracelets, rings and brooches. Her jewellery has aficionados all over the world from New Zealand to the USA, Canada and many countries in Europe. She has personally travelled to Norway, and the Shetland Islands, England and France to meet the demand for her work which has grown exponentially in the last few years.
Yet she feels this is but the beginning for her. She has so many more roads to travel and, being possessed of boundless energy, love of her work, and creativity, she will doubtlessly grow more and more popular with her fans as her handcrafted jewellery become more and more sought-after.
